HLP Hamakua Community Foundation

Maurice was born and raised on Kukaiau Ranch, Hamakua.  He graduated from St. Joseph High School and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Hawai'i Manoa.  He currently owns and operates Miranda Insurance in Honoka'a and has been in business since 1977. 

 

Maurice has been an active volunteer in the community for most of his life.  In addition to HLP Board duties, he has served on the boards of the Honoka'a Business Association, Hamakua Health Center, and the Hamakua Salvation Army.  He is currently the vice president of the National Board of Directors for the American Youth Soccer Organization, a board member for the Hamakua Youth Foundation, and president of the Hamakua Country Club.  Other volunteer activities include soccer refereeing and head coach for the Honoka'a High School Varsity Boys Soccer team (1990-present).

 

His hobbies include golf, reading, traveling, farming, and senior softball.

 

Maurice believes that volunteering is a way to give back to his community and improve its quality of life.
